Washing your roof can be an important part of your home maintenance plan.  Those black streaks are organics eating the calcium in your shingles.  Eliminating them makes your roof look better, but, also eliminates organisms that retain moisture.  And, moisture can lead to moss and, or, damage beneath the shingle.
